An empty Wheel, a driverless car
When it comes to being useless, Simply Slaw wins in a ‘Landslide’
Want to know what Queen Bey stole from a king? How about solving a letterless “Wheel of Fortune” puzzle or addressing an existential mystery? It’s all part of Simply Slaw. Here goes:
Murphy Slaw
Something old: Here’s an old “Wheel of Fortune” puzzle that’s making the rounds on social media again. I bet you’ve heard the song, so challenge yourself for a minute, then I’ll give you a couple of hints and the answer.
Hint 1: The song has popped up on tons of TV shows over the years, including “Ted Lasso.” Hint 2: Are you sure you’re never gonna never gonna guess it?
Still stuck? Here you go.
Something new: Existential question: If you flip off the driver of a driverless car, will it make it honk? People in San Francisco and a few other urban areas take the driverless Waymos for granted, but they can be a shock to visitors.
Something borrowed: Some compliments you’ll forget about it in an hour, but others will last you a lifetime. Fitting nicely into the latter category is one that was offered to Jonathan Groff, a Tony winner whom you might know best as King George from “Hamilton.” As he tells Stephen Colbert, a “Hamilton” audience member said she liked King George’s walk so much that she might steal it.
Since that audience member was Beyoncé, you bet he remembers it. If you’re into all things Bey, this clip has more details. But here’s Groff teaching Colbert his walk:
Something blue: This thread drew a healthy debate, even if the subject is grim. I would strongly go with “when” — my anxieties would drive me crazy if I knew the “how.”
Something reimagined: This could rank as blasphemy for fans of Fleetwood Mac, which put out the song half a century ago. But one of the things about any form of great art is that people build on it, often broadening its audience, sometimes making it resonate in a different way. Here are both versions, along with another popular cover, by The Chicks.
