When Zendaya and her fans fell in love
From lip syncing to fitness testing to bodies creaking, it’s all in the Slaw
In today’s edition of Simply Slaw, we will attempt to read Zendaya’s mind, check out our collective fitness and have a Blockbuster of a flashback. Here goes:
Murphy Slaw
Something old: Have you ever seen a wallet with cobwebs?
Something new: Popculturenistas have known for days that Tom Holland and Zendaya got engaged. They first starred together in 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and promoted the film together, including this appearance on “Lip Sync Battle,” which might have given fans an early glimpse of their destiny. Even though Holland was the film’s title character, Zendaya almost certainly had the higher-profile persona.
But on this night he stole her thunder. And, quite possibly, her heart.
Something borrowed: This Washington Post fitness test offers five ways of measuring your health, with different targets based on age and gender. The tests should take you a total of about 20 minutes, not including any time spent in a coma.
Something blue: I doubt this is exactly new, but it certainly sounds like a great idea.
Something bittersweet: This week is a nightmare for people around Los Angeles and their loved ones around the world. If it hits particularly close to you, do whatever you can to cope. If not, do whatever you can to help. If the wounds aren’t too raw, find joy wherever you can.
By all means read about the people who’ve lost their homes, even if they’re strangers, even if you wouldn’t have given a damn about them a week ago. They deserve all the long-distance love you can give. But balance it out by reading about someone who’s cancer free or had a child or landed a life-changing job. Or finally got sober.
For every news clip you see that makes you cry, find one on YouTube that makes you laugh. Because your psyche deserves all the love you can give, too.
When all else fails, remember those famous words lip-synced by Tom Holland:
Now that it’s raining more than ever
Know that we’ll still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella
